Marketing Monday: Education for Business Owners

It’s a new year which means this is the best time to learn more about how to market your business better.
Here are my favorite ways to deepen your marketing education:

Google Analytics Academy

I’m sure you’ve heard about Google Analytics. How great it is, all the data it collects, and that you can better your website with it. But how do you set it up? Does all that data just look like gibberish to you? Google offers Google Analytics Academy which offers 6 different courses on Analytics, Data Studio, and Tag Manager.

Google Analytics will allow you to get a better understanding of your audience and how they engage with your website. With these insights, you can see where your site is lacking, figure out your main source of traffic, and test new elements in your site design.

Facebook Blueprint

Facebook blueprint is a course designed to teach specifically about Facebook marketing. There are eight available courses, but as a business owner, the Certified Marketing Associate should be more than plenty.

Facebook is an important platform for any business to reach customers. Seven out of every ten adults are on Facebook and Facebook accounts for over 45% of monthly social media visits. Your target customers are on Facebook, and often, making it a great way to reach them.

Podcasts

Podcasts are a great way to learn more about marketing, or any topic! Unlike Facebook Blueprint or Google Analytics academy, you don’t need to set aside time dedicated to podcast learning. You can listen anywhere, any time, which is great for multi-taskers. I love podcasts when I’m driving, doing chores, and especially when I’m building out websites.

I follow quite a few industry podcasts through Google Podcasts, but you can listen through Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or many other places. My favorite marketing and business podcasts include:

Duct Tape Marketing

John Jantsch is a marketing consultant specializing in small business. He interviews industry experts discussing tips and resources for all aspects of marketing. He describes his book and podcast tips just like Duct Tape, “it’s good, incredibly smart, amazingly practical, and immensely sticky stuff.”

Kiss My Aesthetic Podcast

This show from Michelle Wintersteen at MKW Creative Co focuses on helping entrepreneurs define, design, build, and grow great brands in the digital landscape. Michelle is a brand designer producing some of the coolest and most beautiful logos I’ve ever seen! I would highly recommend her show and her company for branding & logo design!

Social Media Marketing Podcast

Hosted by Michael Stelzner from Social Media Examiner, this show focuses on social media marketing in particular, incorporating expert interviews, success stories, and diving into new approaches and technology will help you and your business navigate through social.

There is a lot to learn and do when it comes to marketing your small business! Tackling digital marketing altogether can present a lot of challenges. Resources like Google Analytics Academy, Facebook Blueprint, and Podcasts will definitely help you learn new things and deepen your marketing knowledge.
